## What it is

Open source system that records what the agent does in each session, compresses it with AI and injects the relevant context into later sessions.

So Claude Code and other agents keep project knowledge between sessions, without repeating explanations.

- Hybrid search (semantic and keyword) in SQLite with Chroma, through three MCP tools
- <private> tags keep sensitive content out of storage
- Local web viewer and install via npx claude-mem install

## Caveats

- Apache 2.0 license.
- The synced observer has a 30-day free trial; afterward it uses your Anthropic plan or your own OpenRouter or Gemini key. Prices aren't stated.
- Optional Cloud Sync sends memories to cmem.ai; requires Node.js 20 or higher.
